The Placenta Does Not Form A Complete Shield:
Not long ago scientists thought that the placenta completely shielded cord blood from most chemicals and pollutants in the environment. Scientist also thought that the placenta completely shielded the baby as well. Now, we know that during this critical time…the umbilical cord carries a steady stream of industrial chemicals. It also carries pollutants and pesticides that cross the placenta as readily as residues from cigarettes and alcohol. This is the human “body burden” — the pollution in people that permeates everyone in the world, including babies in the womb.
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) spearheaded a research study. They collaborated with Commonwealth. In conjunction with this study, researchers at two major laboratories found an average of 200 industrial chemicals and pollutants in umbilical cord blood. The umbilical cord blood came from 10 babies born in August and September of 2004 in U.S. hospitals. Tests revealed a total of 287 chemicals in the group. The blood of these 10 children was collected by Red Cross after the cord was cut. They harbored pesticides and consumer product ingredients. They also harbored wastes from burning coal, gasoline, and garbage.
Biomonitoring Indicated Widespread Toxicity:
In a study in 2003, WWF-UK tested the blood of 155 volunteers from around the UK for the presence and levels of a range of 78 hazardous man-made chemicals, including pesticides (OCPs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and brominated flame-retardants (BFRs). The study revealed the startling extent of chemical contamination in the bodies of people from across the UK. Every person in the survey was contaminated by chemicals from each of the chemical groups tested.
How Contaminated are Our Children:
A 2004 WWF-UK survey, “Contamination: The next Generation”, attempted to find answers to questions such as:

This survey took blood from three generations of seven families from around the UK. The blood and analyzed these samples for 104 different man-made chemicals. Indeed, the results were shocking! We found contamination in all three generations, including the children. A cocktail of hazardous man-made chemicals was contaminating all of them. In fact, we use many of these chemicals everyday products around the home. Sadly, officials banned many of them before the birth of the children. The results revealed contamination of every child, including those as young as nine years old. We found the same range of hazardous chemicals in everyone. They were contaminated with organochlorine pesticides, PCBs, brominated flame-retardants, phthalates and perfluorinated (“nonstick”) chemicals. We found the same five chemicals in each parent, grandparent and every child (a banned flame retardant, 3 PCBs and a breakdown product of the banned pesticide DDT).
Even more alarming was that some children were more contaminated with certain chemicals than their parents or grandparents generations.
What Should this Research Indicate to You?
You should notice that we found contamination in each person in every study. Your body was NEVER designed to process these chemicals and heavy metals. Your liver and kidneys cannot easily or rapidly break them down. And when your body is unable to breakdown and eliminate these toxins, it stores them away in your fat and/or liver and/or joints. So, this could be the reason for your fatigue. If you suffer from joint pain and inflammation, this could be the reason why.
