Incredible, Edible Eggs and Cholesterol:
Debunking the Myths!
Let’s rethink eggs and cholesterol. Unfortunately, eggs have really received a bad reputation because of some research that was released before all the facts were discovered. This just isn’t fair to the incredible, edible egg! It’s time to debunk the myths and set the record straight.
Let’s revisit the facts of how eggs affect cholesterol levels in the body. Then, we will indulge ourselves in some awesome egg recipes.
Let’s once again enjoy the awesome, incredible, edible egg!
Eggs and Cholesterol Myth 1:
Eggs contain cholesterol that is bad for you.
Eggs are probably one of the most demonized foods in the United States, mainly because of the cholesterol in their yolks. It was originally thought that the cholesterol in the yolk of the egg entered the blood and created problems.
Debunking the Myths: The Cholesterol in Eggs is Good For You!
The cholesterol in eggs are great for the brain that is about half cholesterol itself. When participants in studies were allowed to continue to eat eggs for 6 months, their blood cholesterol levels began to decrease. This means that it couldn’t be the cholesterol in the eggs that was making the blood level of cholesterol increase!
Eggs and Cholesterol Myth 2:
Eggs will increase the cholesterol plaques in arteries.
It was originally thought that the cholesterol in the yolk of the egg was used by the body to create “bandages” to line the walls of blood vessels closing off the blood vessels. When the bandages significantly close off the blood vessels, blood can’t get through. At this point, the cholesterol in the eggs and the bandages get blamed.
Debunking the Myths: Look beyond the eggs and the bandages
Let’s start with understanding why the bandages are lining the walls of the blood vessels. With high blood pressure, the blood is typically too thick causing the muscles around the blood vessels to squeeze to push the blood through. Squeezing the thick blood through the blood vessel damages the walls of the blood vessels. Now, bandages are needed to keep the blood from leaving the blood vessel (internal bleeding).
Without the bandages, a person could bleed (hemorrhage) to death very quickly. This means that the bandages are saving the person’s life by keeping them alive for decades before the bandages significantly close off the blood vessel. Would you ever blame a bandage for creating the actual wound? No! Doesn’t it make sense to ask why isn’t the blood vessel healing itself so the bandage will no longer be needed? Let’s consider this.
Eggs and Cholesterol
HOW DO EGGS AFFECT THE BODY?
Eggs (both the yolk and the whites) are one of the best sources of protein available. The body uses the protein in eggs to allow the blood vessels to heal eliminating the need for the cholesterol bandages. As a result the cholesterol bandage leaves the wall of the blood vessel and floats freely into the blood. This raises the blood cholesterol level. This initial process can occur for months keeping the blood cholesterol elevated while the walls of the blood vessels are being healed.
Debunking the Myths: The cholesterol in eggs does not raise blood cholesterol levels.
It is important to note that it is not the cholesterol in the egg yolk that is increasing the blood cholesterol level. It is the dissolving cholesterol bandages that is increasing the blood cholesterol level. And, this is a good thing! Why? Because this means that the blood vessels are finally healing and no longer need bandages. Once all of the blood vessels are healed and all of the cholesterol bandages are dissolved, the blood cholesterol level drops to a nice, low healthy number.
Numerous nutritional studies on eggs and cholesterol ,such as the one conducted by the Yale Prevention Research Center and published in 2010, that allow enough time for this entire process to occur have proven this to be the case. As a result, the concept of eggs being harmful is hanging on by a very thin thread. What keeps perpetuating this outdated concept are studies that stop while the cholesterol bandages are still leaving the wall of the blood vessels elevating the blood cholesterol.
Eating the eggs gives the body the protein it needs to make the skin beautiful and the hair long and silky. Wounds and sores heal quickly. Muscles get strengthened and can easily bulk up in response to exercise. Wrinkles disappear taking away the appearance of decades!
