DEFINITION FOR AMALGAM FILLINGS AND GOLD CROWNS:
Amalgam tooth fillings are metallic and silver-colored. Notably, many dentist still put them in teeth after the removing the cavity. The International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) has been studying fillings. In fact, the IAOMT reports 50% mercury in these amalgam fillings. The fillings also have 22–32% silver, 14% tin, 8% copper and other trace metals. As a result, these are really mercury fillings! Indeed, a large amalgam may contain the same amount of mercury as in a thermometer.
Dentist also put gold crowns on teeth. For example, a dentist might put a gold crown on a tooth after a root canal. The crowns are called gold when, in fact, they can be as little as 25% gold. They also contain metals such as platinum and palladium.
