Internal Hair Loss Cause: Vitamin Deficiency
The alopecia, as in this picture, can have internal causes which thin the hair all over. Internal hair loss causes can be an iron, B vitamin and/or protein deficiencies.
Iron and B vitamin deficiencies typically cause hair thinning all over. The hair is usually its normal length but just very thin.
A Protein deficiency typically causes the texture of the hair to become rougher or kinkier. A protein deficiency can also cause the hair to break off all along the shaft of the hair causing different lengths of the hair. Consider a protein deficiency if hair is falling on your shoulders and/or in the sink.
Internal Loss Causes: Protein Deficiency
This area can go bald when there are not enough proteins in the diet. This pattern is also seen when the proteins that are eaten are not digested properly.
Internal Loss Causes: Organ Stress
Notice there is hair loss in some areas but the hair is thick everywhere else. The balding area may indicate stressed organs that may no longer be functioning properly.

Hair Loss Causes: External
Some hair loss causes are external. Sleeping with ponytails and braiding the hair too tight can pull the hair from the scalp. Hair relaxer solutions, hot hair irons and sleeping on cotton pillow cases can also cause the hair to break off along the shaft (length of the hair strand). Finally, tying things around your head may cause alopecia around your hair-line.
The pattern of baldness in this picture is most likely caused by one or more of the things listed above.
