Mercury in Amalgam Fillings

The mercury in amalgam fillings is a type of metal that is poisonous.  In fact, it is the most toxic non-radioactive substances on earth.  Yet, it is still used to make up 50% of “silver” fillings formally known as dental amalgams.  Finally, the truth is being made known!  Consider what these organizations have to say:

The World Health Organization

WHO has concluded that dental fillings contribute mercury to a person’s body.  Indeed, they indicate that dental filings contribute more than all other sources of mercury combined.  Mercury is considered by WHO as one of the top ten chemicals or groups of chemicals of major public health concern.

The international Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT)

IAOMT sites published studies that indicate that amalgam bearers excrete mercury in their urine an feces every day.  In fact, the studies sited indicate a whopping average of 150 micrograms of mercury excretes per day. Notably, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends a daily maximum 9 micrograms of mercury for 200-pound adult.  This means that a 200-pound, amalgam bearing adult would be excreting 149 micrograms more than the EPA allows.  More than anything, this should be terrifying!  This amounts to 8.5 tons of mercury excreted from people into the environment annually.  Finally, there is no attempt to filter this heavy metal from the sewage that becomes drinking water.

Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

OSHA AND EPA classify amalgams as a toxic and hazardous substance.  “Another source of exposure to low levels of elemental mercury in the general population is elemental mercury released in the mouth from dental amalgam fillings” Transportation, storage, and disposal of mercury is regulated by the Code of Federal Regulations, 29 CFR 1910.1000.  Notably, the willful violation of this code is a criminal offense.  Yet, a dentist can “store” mercury in your mouth to be transported without criminal charges.
