Mercury and its compounds are commonly used in chemical laboratories, hospitals, and facilities involved in the production of items such as fluorescent light bulbs, batteries, and explosives.
Of 275 hazardous substances at toxic waste sites mercury ranks number 3 for risks to people around those sites. The world health organization has indicated that Amalgams (silver colored fillings in teeth) account for more mercury exposure than all other sources combined!
